Coming back from Germany in my M3 I managed to hit my speed limiter twice at 162mph on the GPS on the autobahn. Indicated over 170mph.

Now the last time I felt that was in the S2000 on the autobahn at 150mph. I attributed it to fuel starvation at the time, which it could have been. But has anyone actually recorded greater than 150mph on a stock S2000 on gps?

IIRC, it usually cuts in at an indicated 155 or so. And feels like fuel starvation.

My speedo is wrong at 140 (nearer 128) but gets righter as it gets to 150, oddly...

So there IS a limiter on the (non Jap) S? That's not widely advertised is it?

I remember when I hit it on my S, I was worried I'd broken it!

No there is no limiter at 150 just not enough power to get more than that on flat. A stock s will do more than 150 but it will only do it downhill

My abs light comes on above bout 145 must not work above that speed not sure why it may brake the discs or something. Light goes off as soon as you turn the car off and on.

What you had out of yours mikey? The S is geared to approx 170 mph isn't it?

I've got to 143mph before, then ran out of road/bottle. It sounded like the roof was about to be ripped off.

I thought the limit of the car was 150mph in stock form - part of the reason i won't change my final drive.

That said, at 140mph, a lot's going on.

Most I've had in a S was 146 roof down on the flat - then I ran out of road but the car still felt like it had a little bit more to go - that 03 S was a little beast..... I am sometimes inclined to think that it was faster than my subsequent Ss (two MY04s and current MY08) but I think in reality that it was the extra noise/raucousness combined with the lighter flywheel that made it feel more bad-assed!!

There are a few clips on UTube where S2000s are up to (indicated) high 160s (MPH) - just search 'S2000 top speed'.
