Driver's Door Rattle
Per my previous thread on removing the driver's door card, whilst I got the thing off and then back on again, I couldn't see anything obviously loose and so gave up on the rattle.
However, it's still there and now it's really doing my head in . The sound, only evident when the window is down, is coming from the rear of the door, near the outside handle. I think it may one or both of the metal tie rods (that connect to the inside handle and door lock) banging against the window glass. If I'm remembering the inside of the door correctly, I think the door handle tie rod passes on the inside of the glass, whilst the door lock rod passes to the outside. The window mechanism itself all seems pretty secure and rattle free.
Those who know their doors will appreciate that access inside the door is pretty limited. I take it the metal inside face of the door is seam welded to the door skin, so does anyone have any tips on how I can check/manipulate the metal rods I think are responsible?

Shiskine - not sure if this will help you or not, but I recall reading about a problem similar to yours in "under the hood". It turned out to be a plastic piece which guides the window when down - it can get dislodged - have you looked or felt around the bottom of the door to see if there is any stray pieces?

I'll have another look, but this rattle is only evident when the window is down, so I don't think it's something that's "fallen off" and is rattling around the bottom of the door. The sound is of something hard (I presumed metal but I guess it could be hard plastic) banging on glass, and I get it on anything other than the smoothest road surfaces.
The thing is this is a new rattle, and if it was the rods, then you would have thought it would always have done it. I'll have another look tomorrow.

It could be a plastic piece which keeps the metal rods in place??
Have a feel around the bottom of the door to check if there are any stray pieces - hopefully you shpuld find something that should hold the metal rods firmly in place.

I think this guide is quite fragile. If you try to drop the window say when there is frost on the outside, it can dislodge the guide.
This happened on my 02 once. I heard it fall off, and then it would rattle about periodically inside the door. I took it into the dealers and they fixed it - I get the impression its not uncommon.

When I put the car in to St Andrews on Monday for this and the mirror adjustment, I described the rattle as I have done above, so if it was straightforward to repair, you'd think they would have dealt with it.
Anyway, let me know if they sort yours ...
