That comment on them being balanced isnt correct. Lets face it, they are a small piece of aluminium, the tiny amount of weight inbalance that may occur from cutting them will make no difference at all...
Your car dosent start shaking it's self to bits when a small stone gets caught in the tyre tread does it?

I wouldn't cut them though, I'd just pull the buckets out and fit as intended.

Think @ 9000rpm.

Weight balance in wheels? They can be minute and still cause shake.

Harmonic resonance also, small change in the weight and dynamics might not be noticable to the butt or other feeling things whilst driving but removing an unknown amount of weight from a vital component (well it's still attached to the half-shaft) could cause damage somewhere else.

I'm just being really anal here.

Def do the buckets though, swap em round.

The shafts arent going to be spinning anywhere near 9000rpm though are they considering the gearing down through the box and the diff, if the shafts were spinning at 9000rpm then the car would be moving at around 460mph.
I certainly don't think its a good idea to cut them though, as they could warp etc. but the tiny amount of weight taken off wouldnt cause any damaging effects, the irregular distribution of grease in the CV bucket would cause more of an upset in weight balance than that.

I agree on swapping the buckets round.

Haha this thread is getting funny! I might make some of my own. Any chance you could get the vernier on them Rob and measure how thick they are? Im going to make up a bump steer kit out of billet ali aswell if you fancy one as a pay back for some dims. Also how long are the bolts threaded and clearance? Cheers

Swap the buckets, I did this when I changed the diff as it was really easy (no need to touch the suspension).

Also spacers do is move the tripods position relative to the inner cup. If you swap the buckets around then you get nice new surfaces to wear against and no need for spacers.
