Default Dying cat

My cat is rattling and on the way out. I don't want the hassle of a decat, but I don't want to pay main dealer money for a standard part, so what are my best options? Salvage part? Is there a decent pattern part available? Berk hi-flow? etc....

I've seen a Megan Racing 'catalytic convertor' advertised - anyone know if this is genuinely a convertor that stands a chance of passing an MoT, or is it just a decat?

Any advice welcome.........

Cheers,

I have the same problem and decided to stick with a standard cat instead of getting a high flow one - so picked up a 2nd hand cat on here for £50 posted.

Are you sure it's not just a heat shield loose and rattling?

I bought an aftermarket part years ago on a calibra. Something like this:

Probably got the same quandary on the Civ.

I think it's a rattling heatshield, but it seems down on power on the last 1,000 rpm so I wonder if the cat matrix is disintegrating & blocking the pipe.

I've always used Honda OEM parts, but the cat is a tad pricey. Might look at a US import, transport costs permitting. You can bet if HUK wants 8.5 hunderd, they'll want 8.5 hundred bucks.

I don't trust Bosal/Timax replica cats.

Don't know if there's a suitable rice cat.

What's the score with a decat these days? I know they toughened up the rules for this year but surely there's mot places that will still pass it.

£1,309 for an S2000 cat vs $654.58, or £414

£758 for a 94 VTi vs $448.46 or £284

I've also joined the club with a rattling cat although I'm currently looking for a decat pipe.

Any recommendations? I see that DMS do one for £95 and another for £85 from Garage R - are they still in business?
