Anyone using them for S2000 insurance?
I get a good deal when selecting convertable from drop down list, but a bummer deal when selecting either (IMP) or (IMPORT). Do these other 2 only refer to the Japanese variants? I am ordering one from within the EEC (Belgium) and just want to make sure that I am really getting a good price and not just being hopeful.
I have tried to e-mail elephant a few times but no-one has rung back or replied to the mails.
Thx guys'n'gals

Hi,
I am trawing around the insurance companies at the moment - elephant were expensive for me:
Age 41
Full NCB
Wife as named driver (38)
Safe potcode, but car on drive (not garaged)
No Points
No Accidents
10000 miles per yr
Best offer (by some margin) -

when I was looking to insure mine from Belgium I had the same problem, was told it was only for Greys and that EU imports were treated the same, if the qoutes good enough then its worth calling them. A lot of companies these days have a link somewhere on the proposal form which usually says Greys will not be insured but EU imports are ok.
Why there is an IMP and IMPORT god only knows, the other thing I found was that the Type V was available as a variant but as this is definately grey it seems absurd to say you wont insure it and then offer it as a choice.

I'll be trying them later this week, Brother-in-law used them for a 1.8 Focus and was blown away by how cheap they are. Backed by one of the big recognised agents, can't remember who at the moment.

OK, I have phoned around and have recieved conflicting results. I phoned admiral (same company as elephant only not soley on-line) and they said that if it is not bought in this country then it is classed as an import, regardless of Belgium or Japan. I tried to explain it was not a grey import but they insisted it was still an import. If I chose the UK model it was 1100 but if I selected either of the other 2 non-descriptive imports then it was "no way pal". I am sure the others are for Mugen's and other varients in the far east but there was no convincing them of their own website details.
I then phoned bonaportdirect.co.uk and they (after much discussion) said that if the car is bought from a official dealer in an EEC country and full UK spec then it would be treated as a UK model not an import. He went on to say that this was some kind of directive for all major insurance brokers in the UK.
Any Insurance type people here tell me who is right? Do the insurance companies have there own rules on imports from europe? This could end up costing me over 600 quid more because of my age...
