Engine Replacement Under Warranty
 
Hi all, this a follow-on from the topic relating to Engine Rattle at 2000-3000 rpm. It's meant as a log of all engine replacements due to this and similar issues. This is for people who've run their engines in as per the manual. Not issues due to lack of oil or burn-out on track days et.

Description of the problem: Mettalic rattle from engine between at specific points between 2000-3000 rpm. Noise is present while stationary.

Year of Engine Manufacture: 2007
Mileage on engine when it failed: 20k
Failed engine number: F20C21070481
Date of failure: April 2010
Symptoms of the engine: Engine made a knocking noise at about 2500rpm but then got drowned out by other noises after 4000rpm. The noise seemed to be coming from the gearbox bellhousing area but you could feel the knocking if you placed your hand ontop of the engine you could also feel the knocking through the clutch pedal if you held it to the floor. Engine used no oil, made the correct power output on a dyno and the noise was apparent for 7000miles without getting any louder.
Diagnosis: On inspection of the block after removal they could find no bore wear, no crank end float and no scoring of the crank.

Mileage when failed: first 2 less than 7k. Third less than 9K.
Engine numbers: F20C2-1080828, F20C2-0109052, F20C2-0109063
Symptoms: Knocking noise at around 2500rpm especially when easing off the throttle. No apparent loss of power. First engine was found to have a damaged shell (all shells were replaced at that time) probably through over heating. No similar symptoms in subsequent engine reported - but there again, no one checked, HUK authorised engine replacements on the sound only.
