Default Enging rattle between 2000-3000rpm on 2009 model?

HI there, I'm a newbie to the S2K forum. I have a 2009 model S2K which I've owned from new. After about 3000 miles I started to notice what began as a pinking/ticking sound from the engine (when warm). This developed into a metalic rattling sound. This only happens between 2000-3000 RPM.

My local Honda dealer have replaced the engine block twice (where they are convinced the noise is coming from) but can't get rid of it. Honda UK now suggest that this is within "normal tolerance" but I'm not convinced. I've tested a couple of other 09's that aren't like that.

Are there any owners out there who are experiencing the same on a 2009 S2000? My dealership has come across this problem before and thinks there may have been a manufacturing fault in the 09 engine that Honda UK do not have a fix for.

This is the only irritating disappointment in an otherwise fantastic engine.

I'm glad I have a 99 and not an 09.

You want a new engine from HUK by the sound of it.

Yes, I think a new head would be a step in the right direction as they've already had a go with the block twice. I'm just wondering why they were so convinced it was the block that they did it twice. You'd think they'd give the head a try before going for a second block!

Quite a few 08 and 09 engine problems

Do a search, seems like you've got the same issues

Sounds like Honda haven't fixed the problem in your case, a few people on here have had more than one replacement engine

Diagnosis of the failures and what is actually wrong with these engines is my main concern, although mine sounds ok at the moment

If it isn't right then don't be fobbed off

Bookie's 3rd engine which was only fitted a few weeks ago is rattling already (I had a listen a JAE) it's a very light mettalic Zingy noise which is coming from the top right hand side of the engine, could well be something in the head but it is so hard to tell exactly where it is coming from. Her car also sounds odd when she starts it up, almost like the starter motor is different, I did wonder if the engine noise she has and starting noise are related, maybe a flywheel problem ?

HUK are saying that this is normal. My comeback to them is that they would not have gone through the trouble of fitting two replacement block if it is normal. They have suggested an indepenent assessor take a look at which I'm more than happy to do.

What amazes me is that they're not putting in the effort to get to the rout of the problem, given their reputation.

I've tried searching the web but it comes up with thousands of issues from US owners. Will keep searching though.

And there we were all smug at getting a swanky new S for £19k and now we are paranoid about every little noise we hear. Such is life I guess. 11k miles and listening...

Apologies for the many spelling mistakes in my last post. A spell checker on the Forum would be great!

Where abouts in the UK are you,as we could organise between us to take another s2000 to your dealer with a healthy engine so they can hear what it should sound like. When my car developed a rattling/knocking noise between 2500/3000rpm I took it to my dealer where the 1st thing they did was compare it to another s2000 and straight away said mine definately had a problem.
