Default Euro trip advice pls...

Hi All,

Just booked my first European trip for two weeks (3rd Oct to 18th Oct), going starting off from Rosslare harbour in Ireland, 19hrs later dock in Cherbourg France. Plan to head down to Monaco, Pisa, Marenallo and than Rome. After Rome I will have about 4 - 5 more days so not to sure were to head.. Any advice in general would be great, scenic roads, mountain passes, hotels.........

Thanks in advance

Philip.

Route Napolen, Verdun Gorges, Stelvio Pass.

Check out the Milau Bridge! Awesome in the proper sense of the word.

Done Euro hoons a few times & can recommend Millau especially if your heading downthat way from Cherbourg, even more impressive is Pont d' Arc nearby (Roman aquaduct). From Millau cut across to Grenoble & drive the N85 (Napoleon) down to Nice. From Nice to Monaco is only 20mins drive. Cross the Fr/It border above Menton & then down to Rome maybe via Pisa.

From Rome use part of the Mille Miglia route back up to Brescia & from there you have Venice to the east & Switzerland/Austria & Stelvio to the north. Either way you can do Stelvio & shouldn't be missed (apparently...not done it yet)......then return via Bavaria or Switzerland.
Switzerland can be a bit dull with regard to driving as the Swiss love their speed limits but the scenery is obviuosly breathtaking. Montreux is fantastic though. Personally i'd come back via southern Germany....scenery of the Alps & the autobahn for blasting. As you head back to the ports give the Ardenne area a tootle.

head inland a bit and drive through the mountains down the middle of italy - roads are empty and possibly better than the alps and without the traffic.

Highly recommend Col de Turini if in the South of France. I drove home via the Tinee Valee, Cime de la Bonette, Briancon, Col de Lauteret and Col de Telegraph - all recommended. Note - French speed cameras are very well marked, big signs a few hundred meters ahead of each - they take a dim view of detectors there for sure. Mobile speed traps less obvious but small on the spot fine and no further action. Have a great time!

Gran Sasso has the best driving in Italy.

Just east of Rome.
