Default Event Tyres - update

The fitter from Event Tyres came round this morning - and put four new Dunlop (oops - Bridgestone!) RE050 MZs on my car in under half an hour. Great service and, unlike some experiences I've had, not a mark left on the wheels!

Well, the tyres needed scrubbing in , so I've just been out on them - and what a transformation! (Maybe the Toyos that came on the car were even more shot than I thought.) The feel for what's going on, through the steering wheel and seat, is even greater than before; the car brakes more decisively; and it's behaviour on a damp roundabout and along some sweeping curves was just amazing. I suppose I'm setting myself for a spectacular come-uppance!

Now I need to think about the geometry. Any more news on TQM (?sp), Planeman?

Interesting comment on the Toyo Proxies.
Graham Hassell and myself were with Andy Walsh (www.carlimits.com) yesterday.
Graham has an MY02 with Toyo Proxies on it and he's had his geo done. I have an MY04 with RE050MZs on it and have had the geo done (similar settings I think).

Andy commented on how differently the cars handled and how he felt the Toyo's didn't suit the car (loads of oversteer). Also the side walls on the Toyo's were softer than the Bridgestone's and hence during the circle exercises Graham's tyres were rolling more on the rim than the Bridgestones.

Of course, this isn't quite and Apples-to-Apples comparision as the model year of the cars was different. Unfortunately we ran out of time and didn't get a chance to drive each others car to "experience" the difference.

Good to hear the opinion of an expert!

I drove into work this morning on the M3, and spent some time in lane 1 in the ruts made by the lorries. The car still tramlined, but the tug on the steering wheel was a lot less.

All in all, I'm a very happy bunny: changing the tyres has been a very simple 'upgrade' to the way the car handles.

Event fitted RE050s to my car yesterday too - I've only sat on the flaming M25 with them today though, too early to assess the difference as compared to my Toyos.
