EVO this month...

Whoever pays the biggest advertising bill gets to be the "expert" or the "approved retailer" it seems in many magazines, cars, hi-fi, and camera to name a few.

But since EVO magazine is a publication you buy because it matches your Breitling, are you really expecting the articles to be anything more than sensationalised backhanded fudgepacked drivel?
The people who buy solely on the advice of this article will get what is coming to them.
OT - Walshie, the only way you are going to get big end failue with a head skim is by detonation. I'm with Martin, how much did they take off?!?!

I dropped EVO towers a suitably pedantic email r.e. AP1/2 and oil consumption when it arrived.
Not a great article IMHO. I used to subscribe to EVO but now I don't bother. They ring me every six months and offer me 3 issues for a £1 which I always take and then cancel before they take a full year's subscription.

Quite.
Without knowing about a given car, one would assume that they would do the research and that it would be a "reasonable" guide.
The amount of mistakes, half/mis-truths in that article will mean I pay little attention to their other guides. The AP1/AP2 things show a real lack of research, a layman might not know these things but a buying guide really should get this sort of thing right.
Barely a passing mention to suspension bushes and nothing about their bolts seizing up. Or is this a non-issue that's been blown up on this site?
The company referred to appear to be "austec" who are a TVR specialists from a quick google..... Upon reading the article I initially thought, great, a S2000 specialist not too far from me, now I think I'll avoid them after reading their "advice".
Also, a lot of "advice" on these type of articles are quite generic and apply to nearly all cars.

O/T I know but regarding this, last time I got the alignment done the garage said the bushes were seized but then soaked them in WD40 (which probably isn't good for the bushes themselves) and told me to come back the next day, which I did and it wasn't a problem?? I guess maybe mine weren't as bad as some others?

I read this on the way home. I've had subscription to evo for what must be 6+ years.
Infuriating and embarrassing. Clearly, they don't have a clue on a simple thing.
It's not as if there's a FAQ on here with tips.. Nor agreed/recognised garages we all use.
