Extended Warranty Offer

My dealer is offering me an extended warranty - it covers Hondas up to 15 years old

1 year at £299 incl (AA) Eurocover or £250 ex AA
2 year at £499 incl (AA) Eurocover or £450 ex AA
2 year at £699 incl (AA) Eurocover or £650 ex AA

They are also offering payment interest free over 10 months.

For an extra £60pa, you can include the "wear and tear" exclusions from the standard warranty.

Given the niggles my S2 has at the moment, I'm extremely tempted by this

The standard prices are

There are some caveats (per claim limit depending on age - mine was max £1,000 so of little use) - see this thread for more: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/104...for-older-cars

I expect the claim limit varies depending on the age of the car, so it's worth asking.

Still a lot of dosh if nothing goes wrong, and with a claim limit. If you think of the cost as a kind of excess, if something goes wrong in the first year with a £1000 limit then you will get £701 towards repairs, and assuming that includes labour you wouldn't even get the cost of replacing a pair of head light bulbs!

Yeah my 55 had claim limit at 1k covers all cars. It completely eliminates the use of the warranty as most things that will go wrong will be seriously expensive. Parts and labour of anything that is covered is probably going to be far more than that. The cheap things aren't covered....

All it means is that the first £1,000 of any claim will be covered, so if you have two claims in a three year period that cost £1,500 each (£3,000) total, you'll have to pay £1,000 plus the cost of the warranty (£900), so a total of £1,900 out of £3,000, saving you £1,100.

It's worth mentioning that the breakdown cover being included is not too bad in that respect.

So, factoring in the cost of that (say £300 for a three-year period), you would save £1,400 in the above scenario.

It's only really worth it if you have two or more claims accepted during the policy period.

I didn't go for this as I only really want cover for a catastrophic engine failure (£8,000). I can generally afford the smaller stuff (up to £2k or so) without too much bother.

The car I'm picking up next week has this until may 2014, I'm guessing it's with the car and can be transferee to new owners. Is the anything I should look for tha might be covered and is liable to fail. I won't be taken the cover on further so want to make use of it to fix things now if I can.

I've checked with my dealer and if the car is > 8 years old, then there is a £1k cap on each claim ie I pay any costs above the £1k. But if I pay the £650 for a 3 year warranty, I only need one claim above £650 to have a net saving. So I am tempted :)

The wear and tear option is only available for cars < 8 years old, so i might take that up on the CRZ, which was 3 years old last week...

I'll need to look at the claim limit for the warranty on my 09, the last claim was for the traction control unit and was over £1500 so later cars must have a higher limit.
