Front cross-member cover
 

Hi
At last the K&N is on :)

but despite my attempts to clean it up, the front crossmember is a bit tatty.
I'd like to fit a cover over it but all the ones I can find on ebay are stainless steel which I'm not too keen on. Have found some black plastic ones but they are from the US.

anyone got any ideas for other options that don't involve repainting it ?

I bought a brushed stainless steel frame cover a few years ago. Looks nice (not flash) in my Silverstone car. I'm in the US. Bought the cover here from someone in the UK who made them and he shipped it to me. The maker may still be here.

I got a brushed stainless steel one from Kim a few years back but would have thought a.local fabricator could knock one.up pretty quick. I know you said you didn't want steel but the brushed effect is.more subtle than the.polished version and blends in with the crossmember quite well . A light wax and occasionall wipe over keeps it.looking like new. You could always add some chavvy stickers if you wanted to jazz it up!
I would have thought a plastic one might go brittle with age?

Cheers Gary. I was thinking of getting an aluminium one and then having it powder coated but don't want to pay loads of money for a stainless steel one to use as a basis for it. I'll check out your brushed stainless when I see you and see if that looks OK. Don't want the full stainless mirror finish.

Definitely not.mirror, very matt finish which is why I went for it.

Got mine from Tango - burdhed stainless - you could always vinyl wrap it!

I think you're all missing a trick by covering up the channel

What I did for myself and a few mates was to just cut a nice piece of brushed aluminium and fixed into the bottom of the cross-beam channel, then tidied up the exposed edge with some edging strip.
Looks great AND I can use it for storing screws tools etc whilst titting about in the engine bay :)

I'll try and look for a better pic later but here is mine being useful as a tool shelf!!
