Fuel economy dropped off - Lambda sensor?
I noticed today that I'm running about 60 miles to a tank less than usual over the last few days. No change to route or driving style.
There don't appear to be any other symptoms apart from yesterday it almost cut out at idle a few times in the first 10 mins of driving but after that has been fine.
I've ordered a new O2 sensor a few mins ago (generic one to be soldered to my old connector). Is there anything else I should be looking at? Map whack/New Map?
A search revealed this should be the case however most replies suggested there are other symptoms associated with a failing O2 sensor but didn't say what they were.
Thanks
Gary

Failing MAP sensors don't tend to have a huge impact on mpg, but 40-60 miles less per tank is definately 02 sensor territory. Other things can be any drag on the drivetrain, like your AC clutch, but even that wouldn't be 60 miles.
02 sesnors should be treated as a service item imo. Pay for themselves very quickly.
Keep us updated.
Which one did you go for?

I went for an eBay special for £29.99
I figured I'd just cut the connector off the old one and solder/heat shrink the connections rather than paying an extra £30 for a plug.
I've got no aircon and brakes are all free etc.
It's not had an O2 sensor since I've had the car (65k miles) so I think I've done quite well.
Thanks for the confirmation.
It's due a good clean of the TB, IACV and intake sensors etc so I'll get that done this weekend and check the MAP then too for good measure. (I really must get an oil breather catch can/filter at some point)

Not sure i'd have gone for an Ebay one. Stick to Bosch or named stuff. I know a few people have had issues with ebay sensors. Not an item to skimp on when it has the primary input into the fuelling of your car!

Got mine from here http://www.lambdasensor.com/ and had no problems with it, similar problems with mpg too.

Hi, this is an automated email to let you know your item has been sent,
and some info below on what happens now.
I pick & post my items on a daily basis (weekdays) and the nice
postman man comes along in his van at 2.30pm & picks them up for
me.
He signs my paper to say he has taken them, & scans a barcode
to show his boss that he's collected them.
I know how frustrating it is to wait for an item to arrive, so I do my
best to get purchases right up to 2pm into that bag for the postie
to take at 2.30pm.
Now, that part, I have control over.
That, is the easy bit.
The difficult part for me is delivery.
Once the nice Postman person picks up those sacks and carries them to
his van, I wave them goodbye and entrust the fast smooth delivery to the
Royalmail and its nationwide mail network.
For example, if you live in Torquay...
My national sorting office is 'Portsmouth', so my sacks of mail go to my
local sorting office in Gosport, get put on a big Artic truck and
driven to Portsmouth. The bags are then opened and the items sorted (by
hand generally as they are to big for sorting machines) into regional
areas.
The items are then placed in big mail containers and loaded on to
another lorry that will drive down to the Devon sorting office.
(probably stopping at other offices on the way)
The containers are then sorted into more local areas and put on another
van and driven to your local area office. (Torquay)
The containers are then sorted into postcode areas within Torquay, and
then finally your local postie will sort his 'Walk' into a route that he
likes to deliver, and head off with your item in his bag ready to knock
on your door and hand the item to you.
All that in 24 hours usually. As you can see, there
are lots of things that your item has to go through on its journey from
me to you, and plenty of places where it could be delayed.
Inc:
Every sorting office (excessive mail backlogs)
Every road (traffic/accidents/breakdowns)
Every human that sorts the mail (mistakes happen)
Weather (rain/snow/fog/high winds, all slow traffic down)
and other things like items being stuck in the bottom of a mail bag (I
have found several items stuck in the bags that the royalmail send us to
put my mail in.)
Items stolen/lost/damaged (occasionally envelopes get caught
and rip etc, or are delivered to the wrong place.)
Basically what Im trying to ask, is for you to be patient. If I have
sent you this email, I have sent your item. I am not lying. Please dont
think that if your item doesnt arrive within 2-3 days that I have stolen
your money and lied through my teeth about ever sending it. Just take a
second to think what the holdup may be...
Maybe the postman tried to deliver your item, but it wouldnt go in your
letterbox, so he has taken it back to the sorting office for you to
collect. (obviously he should have left a card explaining, however, he
may have forgotten. Or some might say... he didnt bother because it was
raining heavy/he was running late etc)....
Maybe the Truck broke down..
Maybe there was a bomb scare in Portsmouth Town.
or Maybe some poor soul had a traffic accident and died on the motorway,
meaning the truck with your item on board was stuck on the motorway for
4 or 5 hours and missed a connecting lorry to your area.
There are probably a thousand reasons why your item may be delayed, and
probably the most least likely is that Im a despicable thief who has not
bothered to send you item, stolen your money and by doing so risk poor
feedback and ruining my business.
I thank you for taking time to read this email
Kind regards
Wayne"
