Default Fumes Inside Car

Last couple of journeys I've noticed a smell of petrol/fumes inside the car. Not very nice at all.

Cars has done nearly 70,000 miles on a Sept 2000 plate.
Performance is normal, had a full Honda service in September with no problems spotted.

Any thoughts on this one - has any one else had this problem?

Thanks

Ceri

Back to the dealer and get them to run the engine (with revving) while its on the lift. Chances are it's a loose pipe connection.
Note, IIRC the petrol pipe runs behind a plastic cover underneath the car, so it may be difficult to detect.

Good point. When you say petrol/fumes. Is it a petrol smell or fumes (ie: burnt oil)?

Are you sure it's not burnt oil?

If you've managed to get oil onto any part of the engine, it'll give a very strong smell in the passenger compartment.

It's the petrol smell I can't figure. Has to be a loose connection someplace.

Respect and thanks to 6500rpm and Beardie idiot of the month award goes to me .... it would seem my head has been shoved so far up my own arse that I have become blind.

The oil cap had come off - oil was erupting and burning on the hot engine and thus smelling. Gentlemen I am in your debt. Thank you from an idiot.

I'd say it's a hole in your exhast or a poor join in it. There's a warning section in the handbook about fumes in the car, and that's what it suggests as the cause. Along with taking it to your dealer straight away!

EDIT: Ah, must read thread fully next time...
