Sort of on topic
At a recent 1st Lotus day with 4 S's two of them gave off petrol fumes around the rear wheel close to the filler cap after a hard run round the track. It disappeared after a while?
Figure that one out!

Mine was one of those, I'd forgotten all about that. It's not come back since, but then I haven't driven it that hard since. Be interesting to see if it happens again next time.

the petrol cap has a valve in it to let air into the tank as the level in the tank drops. when you are thrashing the car round the tank the fuel will be sloshing all over the tank and the valve will be permenantly open as the level in the tank will be dropping quickly. you probably get a bit of vapour diffusing out of the valve as well as air coming in which would explain the smell. when the car has sat for a few minutes the smell would probably dissappear pretty quickly.

I had this in my beater. Car stank of fumes especially when over half full with fuel.

I replaced the petrol cap and the problem is sorted.

Respect and thanks to 6500rpm and Beardie idiot of the month award goes to me .... it would seem my head has been shoved so far up my own arse that I have become blind.

The oil cap had come off - oil was erupting and burning on the hot engine and thus smelling. Gentlemen I am in your debt. Thank you from an idiot.
How many days did you smell the oil? How many quarts was you car down?

Your not the first, and won't be the last I guess.

The stock cap has been known to work loose on occasion.

Get yourself a mugen cap.
