gearbox rebuild
i'm toying with the idea of doing some maintenance on my S.
a quick google sugests that i may also have a knackered input shaft bearing.
has anyone had a gearbox rebuild done to fix the usual transmission issues; how much did it cost?
im thinking a recon will be better than a used box; atleast everything will of been inspected/replaced.

I'd recommend replacing the synchros and all the bearings while its apart...
I would expect you would be able to get this done for less than £1000 including labour... I don't know how much (or whether its easy to get) a recon 'box exchange...

This is when I would fit a longer 6th gear for long distance cruising.

yeah, i'm weighing up the pros and cons.
either way, the gearbox is out; so ~£200 instantly
then it'd be around the £500 mark for a rebuild; similar price range to a used box.
..then another £300-400 for a clutch!
I've not thought about doing it myself; lack of a garage is part of the reason - not enough room for vice etc. also i've done a fwd clutch before on the drive; wont be doing that again!
having had a box apart before, and it not going back together i'm a bit shy to split the s2000 one.
i'm guessing the S2000 box wont be a service exchange; fairly low turnover part imo.
