Gearbox Whine: Shaft bearings
Hi,
I've had a whine for a while and I've not been able to diagnose, I've stumbled across the thread below and it describes my symptoms perfectly:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/409...whining-noise/
Assuming this is the problem, what to do now? There's the option of picking up a 2nd hand box or getting the bearings replaced. If I opted for the latter, is there anywhere people would recommend? If I change the box, I don't think there's any difference in the pre/post facelift ones?
Thanks

Good to know, something to bear in mind for a replacement. Prices seem to range between 300 - 600 for a used box, so would be interested to see what the cost for the bearings replaced would be in comparison.

If you find out that it doesn't cost any more to replace the bearings in your gearbox than to swap the box for another one I think I'd replace the bearings. That's if you're happy with how your gearbox shifts gears? If you swap to another unknown box you could end up with a notchy 1st-2nd, 2nd to 3rd or whatever gear change.

This was my thinking, the thread I linked to seemed to indicate that it can be done with the box in situ, but part of me thinks it would be better to remove and open it up to check it over whilst it's out.

Scott - Black Diamond in Warrington are a really good clutch / gearbox specialist from what I've heard. The service manager is a real car enthusiast too. I took my previous S there for all my work before I met Ray and never had any problems.
