German Autobahn rules
I'm looking for a little bit of advice from people that have done autobahn driving. As part of my European road trip, I'll be doing the german autobahn and the 'ring. But I'm finding it difficult to get hold of the exact laws that cover the autobahn. I know that most of the autobahn network is NOT unrestricted, but some is. But I don't know how to tell what that is, and what actual laws cover what can and cannot be done. Also if someone has a map of the autobahn network complete with speed limits, that would be fab.
When I get back I'll have lots of piccies from 2 GP tracks, 7 countries, 17 border crossings and hopefully some exotica too.

I'll take note of that Dave! Hadn't thought of that. It's not gone off as I drive a lot slower since my points (see, an old dog can learn new tricks!)
And Tim, is it just as simple as find a stretch and putting your foot down? Is the de-restricted symbol a white circle with 3 black lines through it?

Don't think we went on any autobahn on our trip to the ring.
Didn't stop me chasing a Merc at fun speeds

I wasn't going to try keeping up with the German barges, although most of them are supposedly restricted to 155mph, although there's talk somewhere of the gentlemens agreement coming to an end in Germany so we'll get to see real vmax figures soon hopefully.

Observe the posted speed limits religiously until you see what looks like the NSL sign and go for it!
I only managed 220kph because I was driving an Audi TT (rented by the company - as if I'd buy one!) at the time.

Ta muchly!
What's wierd is that i find it completely easy to stick to an 80mph limit, but 70mph feels like I'm going nowhere. mind you I guess 80 will feel like nothing after I've stretched my cars legs...
