The bloke that renewed mine specifically said that the hood (inc any interior trim etc) wasn't covered which is why I made sure it was done within the first 3 years but there seem to be a few people who have had success...

Wheels seem to be a trickier thing and seems to be subjective as to whether the stealer can be fagged to send pics off to Honda UK. My centre caps have a bit of corrosion on the edges but after my recent tyre saga I can't be fagged to moan any more I got a free trim clip out of it though

I;ve heard of a number of people getting nice goodwill gestures. I think much depends on the approach made to the dealer

It depends on what the problem is. For low cost items the dealer might just try and lose stuff. If it's higher cost it won't be footed by the dealer but by HUK.

In the case of the latter it'll be at the discression of a technical advisor/public relations and dependant on experience of the problem, how good a customer the customer is (i.e. show us some good will and we'll show you some), and likelyhood of it actually being a manufacturing fault.

Not a chance for the few issues I have had. I am told that there is no money basically for it. It is Sales who pick up the tab for this and you must know how badly they are doing at the moment!

I think the only thing keep my local dealer from going is the workshop!

M
The service manager at my local garage said the sales of new was bad, however he said its the best start to a new year they've had for 3 years in terms of sales on the approved used cars.

Its always worth a shot if you think it should'nt have gone/work out in 3 years i reckon

Well thanks for the responses, folks.

I've been going to the same dealer for 7 years now to service the S and previously the Teg, so I hope that goes someway towards being the sort of customer that fits the freebie profile.

Will see how I get on.

Car has been in for service this morning - no joy with the out of warranty claim.

Spoke to the mechanic and then the service manager who basically repeated that Honda UK had really clamped down on this sort of thing since production has been suffering so badly. Apparently, these days it's nigh on impossible to get any goodwill even if you're only a couple of months out.

Perhaps if it had been more of a functional issue rather than a cosmetic one, I may have faired better.

Oh well - looks like I'm going for a refurb soon. Plenty of threads to read nearby!

I had a funny sort of corrosion on all of my alloys. Basically the diamond cut finish had appeared to deteriorate on the outer side of the alloy and this was apparant on all 4 but when I took it in they said someone had sprayed over them?!?!?!?

There was some confusion over the date or expiry with my Euro import and consequently the dealer submitted the claim after the warranty had expired for a new set of wheels and centre caps for corrosion. The dealer had suggested leaving the claim right to the end of the warranty period but also told me the warranty expired on the 1st april. unfortunately, honda shorten the warranty of cyprus imports by 3 weeks to take into account the shipping time from cyprus.

The dealer tried hard to get the claim through but hit a brick wall. I contacted customer service myself and also hit a brick wall. The explanation was that goodwill claims had been clamped down on and Euro imports came at the bottom of the pecking order for goodwill.

I then contacted the head of customer services, explained what had happened and made it clear that seeing as the wheels had already been replaced twice under warranty they were clearly of un-merchantable quality and they could either replace them under warranty (as they would have had to do anyway if the claim had been made two weeks earlier) or i could make a legal claim against them for supplying duff quality wheels. It would have been quite easy to prove seeing as they had already replaced them twice.

It went quiet for a week, i chased him up and got a phone call the following day to say they would replace the wheels as a goodwill gesture which the dealer subsequently did.

Because the extended warranty isn't Honda's own warranty, its a Honda branded 3rd party insurance policy so the insurance company will wriggle out anything it can.
