To GT or not to GT

Hi all,

Ill be purchasing an S very shortly, just looking for the ideal model, just looking for a bit of advice of whether its worth holding out for a GT model?

Personally I see the S2000 as a future classic, So I see buying one somewhat as an investment.

im based in the Surrey area so if anyone knows of a good example, please let me know :)

GT gets a hardtop bundled with it and may in some cases help to achieve lower insurance quotations.

That's about as far as the difference go afaik?

You can put a hardtop on a non-GT with a hardtop fitting kit.

Yea, that was the reason for wanting a GT, hardtop for the winter etc, although id rather not have the hassle of sourcing a hardtop and getting it fitted.

There are 2 schools of thought on this:

Love the hardtop, turns it into a 2nd car.

Hate the hardtop, never use it, it is a roadster.

One falls into either generally, so unfortunately, the answer is, over to you :)

If your username suggests you will be supercharging, you want an 05 car rather than 06.

I wasn't specifically looking for a GT, but ended up buying one as it was available at a good price when I wanted to buy an S.

The hardtop stayed on for all of a week or two when I first got the car last November, then I removed it to make the most of a cold crisp winters day drive, and it's lived in the garage roof wrapped up in it's bag and another dust sheet for good measure ever since.

IMO, don't go for a GT specifically, just if one comes up in the right spec at the right price go for it. The S has a furnace of a heater that's more than a match for UK winters. That way you have the option of going topless at a moments notice whenever you like. Just go for some aftermarket seat heaters and a beanie!

I bought a GT model, mainly cause it was a good deal, the H/Top was on for the first two days of ownership in over two years so the next car was a roadster, saved money and storage space.

I Love my HT I think the car looks great with it on. Mine goes on every winter as I don't mind not having the top down on those cold crisp mornings. Nice to get it off again for the summer though.

As been said before, if you want it get one. The car drives exactly the same on or off.
