I imagine similar doubts over future values would have been aired if such things as datsun sunny (etc) forums had existed in the 70's.
I totally agree with Lower's sentiments about chavving and natural selection. If anything, this will ultimately work in the cars favour as it speeds the process along. After all, it wasn't produced in huge numbers and even now I can't recall seeing another in the last 6 months - bar my mate's.
It sounds like you're in a very fortunate position as you have the means to store the car should you wish. It sounds like you've a primo example too.
Hiring a weekender to see if it suits is a good idea. A dose of beater experience may help put perspective on what you have.
Either way, wait till a sunny day before leaping and best of luck with what can only be a win win scenario for you.

I kind of agree on the value issue and I am not looking to turn a profit, money really has nothing to do with it, it's more the option to have one back if i wanted to in the future. If i sell now, I can't see me getting it back.
It's more the sentiment than the money.
Sadly, I cannot afford to tuck it away and get the next car on the list, but ultimately, it looks that like it will have to make way for the next car, whenever that may be.
But a 997 coupe is looking favourite at the moment so a summer in the S could be my last top down motoring for a while.
Better make it a good one.
Le Mans
Spa
Euro Tour
all on the cards at the minute, may as well go out with a bang hey! (albeit hopefully not a real one...)

i reckon with S2000 values so value (I was offered 4k p/x for my 2001 55k miles FHSH 2 previous owners) that when I move up to a 911 or Aston I'll keep the S and find the shortfall from somewhere else...

I have a GT100 and it won't be going anywhere. I traded in my Nurby for this one and did it for various reasons a) wanted a white S b) was last chance to own an S from new c) its limited.
We intended to keep it for an age however after looking at recent running costs (3 services in a year, road tax, insurance etc) an annoying noise that no-one can sort and most of December stuck on the drive, I am not so passionate about it. I am even contemplating opting into the company car scheme and getting a Black Edition Audi A3.
But yesterday I got in her, the road was magically clear, the air cold and she drove like an absolute dream. And I knew......I couldn't give that up!

BoM, I too went out for an unplanned trip last night. 50 mile round trip to play snooker as the wife was working late so the oil burner was not available.
It really did re-ignite a littel spark for the S and put a few concerns to bed. Rarely have I spent near 1/4 tank of super more wisely.
Better pull my finger out and work a bit harder so when the next itch comes along, I dont have to think about selling the S to fund it!

Earlier last month I traded mine in for an Alfa Romeo GT. Two weeks later, I had the S2000 back.
I suspect I will end up opting into the company car scheme and keep the S for weekends / Euro Trips. Unfortunately by doing this, I will have to give up the company fuel card for the S and that's been handy with the amount of private miles I do

only one for sale that I can see...
£20k....although not been snapped up, so demand clearly not there at that price.
Wonder what the summer will hold....
