Default Handbrake light not working

Hi All, My handbrake warning light is not coming on. I think it is just the bulb as when i turn the ignition on , every light on the dash will light up except that. Does anyone know a way to test if i am correct?

If it is just the bulb does anyone know where i can get a new one and is it a massive pain to fit. I called Hendy today and the lady i spoke to said that i had to buy the entire instrument cluster for £500. Surly that can't be right! Or can it? I await your reply.

I'd check the switch in the handbrake first (much easier to get to! Just open up centre console)

you can get get to the bulbs behind the dash, they are little tiny things and you can get about 10 for £2 on eBay. I can't remember the bulb type off the top of my head. EDIT: T3 neo wedge..
BUT it's a pain in the arse to get the dash out to check (lower steering column, remove dash, etc...) but there is a good guide out there from Qube. http://www.qube-engineering.com/Documents/Qube'sLEDGaugeClusterInstructionsAP1_v1.1.pdf

The handbrake switch is probably working if you can retract the roof when the brake is On and not when Off.

I believe the brake light on the dashboard monitors the hydralic level of the brakes as well. That's the function I'd be concerned about.

I did have my brakes bled the other day, the reservoir is full though.

You can whip the dash out in < 30 minutes if you're quick about it.

The fluid level switch connecter is on the side of the master cylinder, pull the plug and short across the contacts, if the light comes on the switch is faulty or just plain stuck. As above if the roof works then the handbrake switch is OK. I wouldn't start pulling stuff apart till you have done these checks.

Just found this, hope it helps, all the lamps have the same supply so with one out it's likely to be the bulb, if there is an LED equivalent I'd be inclined to swap the lot.

I'm sure you're all sat at your computers waiting for an update, so here it is.

It was the handbrake switch. It was stuck fully down, when i pushed it up the handbrake light came on and i could lower the roof. The switch is very stiff and even after i put some grease on it, it is still very stiff and will not raise itself. Knowing the cause of the problem does give a sense of relief but now i need to know what to do about it?

Hose the switch out with some silicone lubricant. Available at auto and hardware stores. Cycle the switch lots of time while doing this and it will probably clean up fine. Spilled Coke(tm) in the area may gum up the switch.

The switch is under 10 bucks, though, if you want to replace it. 47342-S2A-A01

I have had a look for that part but for my year it is showing a different part number, did they change it at some point after 2003. This is what it is offering me for my model year
