Has anyone used the rear wheels on the front?
I'm having a hard time finding the tyres that I want in a 16" so I'm trying to find alternative solutions, 16" wheels are cheap and plentyful and this is for a track car so I'm not bothered about going to 17".
I'd like AD08r tyres but can't get hold of them in 225/50 for the rear, I can however get 225/45 which will reduce the diameter by approx 3%. An ideal solution would be to reduce the fronts by the same, so I either go for the 205/50 on the front or my favoured option of putting 225/45 on a spare pair of wheels and putting them on the front with the correct adapters. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this and whether anyone has experience of it? |
the front and rear wheels have different bores. You can use them if get the wheel's bore machined to fit. Many people in the US use a squared set up for track use.

What he said.
M1bjr (no longer an active member, but look for his posts) went for a non staggered setup. |

Can you get 245/45 for the rear? The circumference is only 10mm smaller than 225/50 which solves the size problem (not to mention gearing) plus you get a bigger contact patch. I've been using 245/45/16 R888 for the last few years successfully.

OP: I seem to remember reading a post on the US side before where he did that, then he had another rear set widened to 10j iirc. It was very close to the suspension strut from the pics that were up.

After a lot of indecision and some calculation I finally made my mind up, 16's won't poke out like in that pic above by the way as the rears are only 7.5" and not 8.5". I'd read that changing the width of the fronts without doing anything else to the car (like I was planning on doing) can upset the balance of the car through the corners.
I opted to go for some Dunlop Direzza DZ03g in 205/50 and 225/45 fitment, I'm on track on Saturday so will hopefully be able to give them a good old test out. |
