it will fail without a CAT, part of the test is to check for it being present. Regardless of whether it passes the emissions test. your better off buying a sports cat then you dont need to change it out every year at MOT time.
You are right.. but the decat was less than £40 and a sports cat is over £200.. that's worth a lot of hassle at the moment.

lets hope the cat makes it through the MOT
it will as long as long as you have no other engine mods. Even with no CAT alot of these cars will pass the emissions part. So a broken cat as long as its not blocking shouldnt be a problem.

There is no requirement to check for the presence of a Cat in an MOT. If you can pass the Cat emissions test without a cat then you are ok.
It will fail if part of the exhaust system is missing or damaged.
The only pre-requisite is that the car can meet the emissions target for that vehicle, whether cat is removed or not.
Fair to say that MOST cars wont if they were designed for a cat.
The early Subaru turbo for example had two cats, and removal of one still allowed a pass, just.
And anyhting before 1993 did not require a cat in the UK, not 1991.

Rather than a Decat ... can't you just remove the contents of the Cat and so it looks like one is present etc? Or what about sleeving a Decat pipe with an old cat.
