Default Help engineight flashing

It's just come on and the engine sounds like it's dropped a cylinder?? Pulled up straight away and am sitting wait for green flag to arrive.

Has anyone got any helpful advice I can pass on to the guy when he arrives?

MY04, garage r decat, kn cai, service by main dealer less than 200 miles ago (!) for 72k service (car done 67k), with a tappet reset.

I'm hoping knock or map sensor, fuel filter. If I think on any more I start to worry

All helpful comment welcome. Thanks

Coil pack or loose plug?

Best of luck with it.

Pull the plugs/check if they are tight/ok

Disconnect each coilpack in turn whilst car is running and take note if the engine note changes.

Thanks guys. Fella from green flag just left. Ran test and got codes: P1399, P0303, P0301 and P0300, the latter being a random/multiple code when cylinders 1 (P0301) and 3 (P0303) are misfiring apparently.

Any ideas on what code P1399 is??

P0300 - random misfire
P0301 - No. 1 cylinder misfire
P0303 - No. 3 cylinder misfire
P1399 - also appears to be 'misfire' or 'Manufacturers ignition control system' according to Google.

Check the coils and plugs - also check that Honda bolted everything down properly. Also check the cam cover sensors are both in place and connected and also check the MAF sensor cable is clipped on securely.

Interesting reading - but you need to do the checks suggested by the others above. I wonder if the tappet reset was done hot or cold ( should be done cold).

Thanks again.

Car was low loaded back home at midnight last night so it was a long evening! Fortunately I had managed to coast the car into a pub car park when it happened and it turned out to be 'pie night' so there were worse places to break down!

I will be straight on the phone to Honda this morning because I suspect that the engine wasn't sufficiently cold to do the clearances and they've done them too tightly meaning the valve cannot close properly and build compression? I will certainly get them to check the coils and sparks too whilst they're at it.

I'm properly pissed off (despite an unexpected night in the pub), because I had asked them to call me first if they though a valve reset was necessary so that I could confirm the cost but they went ahead regardless.

I dropped the car to them just before 9am (after and 30 min drive so engine was fully up to temp) and they called to say the car was ready at around 3:30pm. Assuming they got cracking with the other service items straight way and did the clearances last it still doesn't strike me as sufficient time for the engine to get 'stone' cold? Temp on the day (21st January) was similar to the temps we are getting currently.

Did you fill up with some dodgy fuel at all ? There's a lot of flooding around at the moment and petrol station tanks have been known to take on a bit of water.

Ben's suggestion IS plausible; similar stuff happened with that silicone contamination a few years back.

But tight valves/loose plugs is probably the starting point. If it's across all pots, tight valves increasingly likely.

Regardless of your current situation, Honda have failed (shocker) to correctly conduct valve clearance adjustment.

Check all of the above, speak to the dealer, and TELL them that you are having the car delivered to a different garage for investigation and if the problem disappears after correct adjustment, you will be sending them the bill.

The key here is to check the easy stuff yourself, and if it transpires that the valves are out, to not back down and be robust.
