Unhappy Help..... head gasket has gone.

Hi
Does anyone know where I can get the head gasket fixed on my S2000.
Everyone I speak to says they've never heard of one going but it has I'm gutted. I would love to know why it's happened.
I live in Sheffield.

Thanks Bev

I am sure there are places - maybe worth a hike over to Daytona Dave's place around S Manchester?

Mods will move this to the best forum probably the main S2000 one.

Good luck Bev

Who diagnosed it?

its potentially not a nightmare, though the head may need a skim

i dont know of anyone though bar Ray as Arsie said but he's a trek for you

Hi

It was Autotronix a well trusted MX5 specialist with a coolant colour test not that it needed it when I got there, bubbles in the expansion bottle. It's taken a while to show it's self just loosing coolant. Compression ok no water in the oil. So just need local specialist who will do an honest job or my husband is going to do it

Thanks for the reply Bev

Bev the engine is not much of a step for a trusted local MX5 mech I would think especially on the basis of put your money where your mouth is. As Nottm says a block skim is not rocket science. Did that with my old 245 Volvo using local guys when I lived down south. Rock and a hard place though with your poor hubbie in the frame

Might be worth low loading/tow it over to Daytona Dave (PM him?) for an expert S2000 all round health check too.

Guys there do a monthly S2000 session Saturday morning - or used to. Strength in numbers.

Its not different to any other car so autotronix will cope I'm sure. Like has been said check the head hasn't warped and find the cause for the HG going. Is your water pump working? had you ran low on coolant? Has the engine ever over heated? Do your cooling fans come on?

I'm doing the same on mine soon as my valve stem seals are leaking. If you we're in Oxfordshire I could help more, but as you say, your husband can do it if he is handy with spanners. Have the block checked for flatness too whilst it is apart and hope that this doesn't need machining as that'll be a full engine strip down. Oh and inly use a OEM HG on re-fitment!

Supreme Car Services (01733 576 614) in Peterborough can do this, they specialise in engine builds and have done S2000s before, so you would be in safe hands.

Thanks for the replies.

We are still on the lookout for someone who will tackle it. The MX5 specialist would rather not do it as he would need to buy some special tool. Daytona Dave has a long waiting list and so does TDI North , we would rather stay clear of Sheffield Engine services after a bad experience, so if anyone can recommend a localish to Sheffield mechanic please let me know.

My husband is still willing to give it a go but we were hoping for someone to turn it around quickly. I guess the answer may be to wait for one of the above

Thanks Bev
