Default Help JD Fix his S2000

Hey everyone

Long time no see.

Been ultra busy setting my new life out in Ipswich, so the S has been asleep ready to be awakened in March.

Thing is, she is 15 years old in march and through years of being driven how she was designed she's after some TLC. This is where you guys come in.

Because I new to the area I have no idea who a good Honda specialist is that I trust to work on my car, plus I'm after mainly genuine Honda parts at good prices unless a good upgrade is available. Here are my niggles I need sorting.

Gearbox or wheel bearing noise, needs diagnosing and fixing

Buzzing clutch, need a replacement as it's done 102k now, will consider an upgrade as may supercharge in the future

Alarm doesn't work anymore

Front Discs warped slightly

Timing chain Tensioner starting to
rattle

Tappets inspection for piece of mind

Gearbox plug leaks, most likely threaded, needs oil changing too

New auxiliary belt

Oil and oil Filter change

New Mats

And some new wiper blades lol

All help greatly appreciated

Cheers

Jon

Cheers

Have a look on this thread, there is a couple of recommendations, what you are looking at doing is relatively straight forward stuff for any garage to do

I have a cheap set of front discs and pads to sell. Will bump the ad up in for sale section.

Hello

Gearbox or wheel bearing noise, needs diagnosing and fixing:
Once local trust worth garage has been found this issue can be resolved.

Buzzing clutch, need a replacement as it's done 102k now, will consider an upgrade as may supercharge in the future:
Unless done yourself this can be costly. I replaced mine in April last year and I think I paid 300 quid in Labour + OEM clutch parts from Si at Hendy Performance. Im sure someone on here will recommend a clutch worth upgrading too if you are to supercharge.

Alarm doesn't work anymore: Try replacing the battery, my alarm failed mid last year and I only replaced my battery 2 weeks ago. everything works fine now.

Front Discs warped slightly: replace. brakesinternational.com good deal for cheaper break parts.

Timing chain Tensioner starting to rattle: Either sand blast the worm gear for a temp fix, or buy a new unit. Buy from billman (USA) he dont fail apparently.

Tappets inspection for piece of mind: Have your new found garage do this, unless you can do it yourself!

Gearbox plug leaks, most likely threaded, needs oil changing too: Helicoil, I just use honda oil 10w40 fully synthetic. Others will recommend plenty of other brands. take your pic.

New auxiliary belt: Parts can be sourced from various, easy job I believe.

Oil and oil Filter change: Oil covered previous, filter available from various.

New Mats: S2ktuning have some.

And some new wiper blades: ebay / halfords.

I hope that helps.

Hi Mike,

Thanks so much for the info, I really appreciate it, how much did Si charge you for the clutch kit?

Was your alarm a hamilton palmer which came with the car? Ive never replaced the battery in 6 years of ownership but its never let me down once, the alarm crackles when the batterys 1st connected but thats about it hence why I thinks its the alarm

Thanks again Mike

So can anybody else recommend a good uprated clutch ready for possible supercharging in the future?

Cheers

Hi jon

No problem only trying to help!

Si charged me £300 to £350 I think. Cant remember off the top of my head. It may have been more. I had my local indie garage do it and they said 400 labour. When I picked it up they were not amused and told me it should have been much more however they stuck to what they quoted - thank god.

I think this may do what you want....but seriously ask around before buying another clutch other than oem as I really dont know. http://www.hendyperformance.co.uk/pr...00_h08023-2100

Well my alarm is standard fitted to an MY01. Its useless. Basically mine wouldnt lock as the alarm just sounded. Error was subsonic alarm trip or ultrasonic alarm something like that. Left me unable to lock the damn thing without it screaming at me. Replaced my battery and the alarm bleeped first time I locked it and now it works fine. Woohoo.

Cheers Mike, your a legend!

Yeah, I believe you have to drop the subframe to fit the clutch as you can't get to the bolts at the top of the gearbox otherwise, thing is I think it knocks the front geo out so you have to get it aligned as well.

What uprated clutch kit is that? Any lightened flywheels that are good you know of?

Ps the battery swap is a expensive way to check if the alarm is knackered lol

Cheers

Hi Ginger

Thanks for the recommendation , it's a little daunting moving somewhere new and not knowing a good garage, I used to use Rob at Garage R , but he's 3 hours drive away now .

I can do basic repairs and oil changes my self normally , it's just I don't get the time anymore, and just enjoy driving it now

Cheers
