Default HELP - smell of petrol fumes inside car

For quite a while now I have been aware of the smell of burnt petrol in the, coming in through the air vents. This occurs irrespective of whether air con is on or off, fan-speed and the temperature setting; it is noticeable when the car is stationary, less so on the move. The smell is barely noticeable in the engine bay (with the bonnet up)

So far I have:
- replaced the pollen filter twice
- replaces the oil filler cap and seal twice
- had the valve clearances check and adjusted
- had the air con service and fully recharged
- replaced air intake filter, then installed K&N kit

The car has been fully serviced and MOT'd twice since this issue started, so it cant be anything obvious leaking

What else should I be pointing my dealer towards?

Do you have one of these in the cockpit?

no - all stock (apart from K&N intake - but the smell was there before I fitted that)

mhhh

No help to you but mine stinks of what can only be described as 'hot fluids' when I have been for a blast. The smell normally comes from the vents.

No signs of fuel / fluid leak?

Have you checked your boot compartment vent is working properly?

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/465...-trunk-picsfix

Entirely possible for exhaust / engine bay fumes to leak in through that and come through to the cabin via the vents behind the seats.

Failing that ... check the boot / dust covers over / around the gear shifter.

If that ain't it .... i reckon someone hasn't seated the pollen filter housing correctly on the metal lip / hasn't replaced the bolt and fumes are leaking in around it. If you turn off recirc air do you still get the fumes>

i'll check that on the way home tonight - but from memory, I still get some fumes but greatly reduced.....

my boot has, to date, remained resolutely dry, albeit the car really only gets wet when washed (ie no spray is thrown up by the wheels)
