My 4.9 lasted less than a year, i think around 8 months? <4kish miles? but my car was spitting 4ft flames on that map so that is probably why!

Well got the new Gates belt today. It appears to have a coating on the grooved area that the other belt doesn't have so maybe this generates more friction. I have also opted to remove the allen bolt that restricts belt tension. I have measured it up and its m10x80mm and from my very poor eyesight against a ruler it looks like a 1.25 thread. I cant get a belt in the size between 6PK1305 and 6PK1300 so 1305 will have to do. You can get enough tension on without the belt fouling the allen bolt but with heat and the belt moving around there is always the chance it might rub up against it and damage the belt overtime, would rather change the bolt from allen to hex which has a lower face.

Removing it did cause the spacer behind it to drop down but its not difficult to refit if you remove the bottom idler pulley which is only a 2 minute job. Had a look at all the bearings as well which all seem to be in good health.

I have ordered the replacement bolts so hopefully in the near future i can try it all again and see if the pulley is really going to make a difference.

while they are off can you see any numbers on the pulley bearings? just wondering how easily source able a new bearing would be if one was to fail

Yeah they are sensitive devices. Don't like lots of overfuelling nor condensation!

I ground my Allen bolt down as they are deep heads.
Nothing wrong with an AEM wide band, mine works great, never had any issues.

I would get a heavy duty pressure plate. So either the ACT HD PP with OEM friction disc, release bearing, pilot bearing....or a full kit from someone else.
Mine started slipping on the stock clutch right away.

You probably don't need a regulator... but get a wideband.

Sorry about the micra, it has been removed from the premise now

I'll try get a photo of filter tonight.
Also the condenser rad and water rad have all been changed so dont bash me on its condition please! :P

You can just make out the full size oil filter and sandwich plate in pic below

Define i had a look at the pulleys and bearings but without removing the circlip you cant get any bearing numbers or measure them. I figure if it ain't broke don't fix it so im leaving those pulleys well alone.

I got a gates belt in the correct length but even with the tensioner modified its way to lose. Will pop to car spares tomorrow and see if they have a 6pk1300 that fits better. They must be different lengths from each manufacturer as the gates belt is alot looser than the FAI belt and they are both supposed to be the same length

Thanks mark, yea no point in fixing whats not broken could make it worse, hope you can find a belt that works so we can have an idea if the smaller pulley is worth it or not
