Default Honda`s thinking on the S replacement

dunno if any of you have read this or this has been posted before but i read this in this weeks autocar in the stories behind the news section.

It looks as if Honda has a replacement for its S2000 sports car in mind, although the car maker wants to re-think the concept before going ahead. Honda bosses rate the S2000 " not a complete success" because of its single-minded sportiness, and will make sure any replacement is more practical.

didnt think 2 seater convertibles where meant to practical!

Autocar have a different S2000 story every six months. Last I read they were going stop S2000 production to make a V6 Boxster beater, and the NSX was shelved. Now they're building the NSX and have updated the S2k again, so it looks unlikely a new model is round the corner.

I don't think Honda themselves know what they are doing TBH.

Odd for a carmaker that makes such good cars (generally).

I am fairly sure that the new MY06 will be the last change to the S2000. I think there will be a new model in 2008. I also think that the new Honda S2000 will not be as raw as the current model, but will try and bring a few F1 technologies across e.g. DSG.

do they though? I think we'll all agree that the S is a good car , and the NSX is probably a good car (never driven one) but the jazz and the civic are not good cars.. i don't rate the jazz at all and the civic is soooo fugly, good or not it's still let down massively by its looks and I don't think it excels in its arena.

they probably won't make another S2000 as it's not been a financial success, they've not shifted enough of em.... which is a mystery to us but one we're probably all quite happy with.. unlike the bean counters at Honda

Honda's cars always score highly in any survey of owners, usually all in the top 10. So they make great cars by user satisfaction, reliability, value etc.

The problem Honda have with the 'S' is that having designed a balls out driver's car for a smallish niche market they then started adding compromises to help it sell, starting with air con, cruise etc. This process is still ongoing and it does seem Honda are disappointed that a car designed for someone who wants a 'pure driving experience' does'nt appeal more widely!

Which of course it won't, hence the very late inclusion of traction Control on the 06 cars in an effort to attract more buyers.

The Jazz not a good car? What are you on about? It is probably the best small car in the world. Decent looks, fantastic interior packaging, reliabilty, 50mpg etc etc. It also handles nicely too, given it isn't a sports car.

I think Honda know exactly what they are doing, they just leak rumours every so often to keep themselves in the motoring press.

The latest news from Honda is that they are not building any more sports cars until they have had some F1 wins.
