Honda OEM mats and fixing brackets.

Honda OEM mats and fixing brackets.
Hello Chaps,
I'm looking to get some mats for my 2009 S2000.
The Honda OEM ones are stuffing expensive, but look great and come with the brackets to hold them in place so they don't slide about. So, here is my question:
Do you really need to cut the original carpet and screw in the brackets, or can you (as some owners suggest) just lay the brackets over the cross-member and let the combined shape of the mats and bracket together hold the mats in place?
I'd rather not cut the carpet if I can avoid it.
Any advice gratefully received.

See Si @ Hendy in Traders. £149 currently. These mats were discontinued but Si got a GB going and Honda in Japan got the old kit out and remade a few sets. He's still shifting pallet-fulls worldwide monthly!

Righto, this has been covered in the past, lay the mats along with the brackets as you would then use a small pointed item say a long thin nail and prod around the points where the screws for the brackets would go....you'll find the holes already in the cross-member under the carpet match perfectly.
