Honda Parts Dept Query
I just rang a local dealer looking a cosmetic part for my S2000. He said he couldn't find what I was looking for on their system and I'd have to ring back tomorrow with my chassis number before he'll refer it to Honda.
Now the paranoid person in me does wonder why he'd need a chassis number for a cosmetic part rather than a mechanical part. This isn't something that would have varied between model years. Is he checking that I'm a genuine S2000 owner and if so why?
If I'm just being odd then just say

I went into my local dealer, today, for a minor part for my wife's 'X' reg Civic. Curiously, he could not find the car given its registration number, but found it OK when I gave him the VIN number.
What was strange was that I had been into my local motor factor, yesterday, for a different part, and they found the car straight away given the registration number!

In 10 years with Honda I can't think of any time we have ordered an incorrect part when using chassis number. There is no hidden agenda..
Chassis number is much better than registration. The Honda system will only pick up on the original registration number - so, for example, if the car was originally registered on a private plate the dealer network can only find the details off the original number, not the re-registered number. The chassis never changes though..

If you get your car serviced or registered on the dealer's system, they will store the number plate and chassis no etc, so you can then call them up and they'll be able to help you either way.
Alternatively, get part nos from here http://www.hondaoriginalparts.com/honda_ca...talogue_C01.php

Like has been said we can search on number plate but VIN is much more accurate!

And Honda are rubbish at reg numbers, they still write to me about the three cars needing an MOT all with my same private plate and they can't decide what cars are mine or my wifes. Last month I got five identical news letters about the new hybrid, hardly the way to save the planet.
