I don't even have to give my reg number .... they know my accent and the reg number that goes with it .... one of the nice things about the car being a little less common

It's because Honda as most companies update parts throughout the model life of a car.

Either different manufactures/suppliers or updated/uprated parts and use a system where they can tell what part your vin needs.

The same system that they use to see if a car needs a recall or not.

Parts are usually recorded by batch, on either when a new level part is first used, when a new batch is used on stuff like "Important A" (safety critical) parts or other reasons, this way they can narrow down searches for recalls and faults.
