How to disable the alarm Siren
Yesterday at the drift day my car developed a fault, the clever people there, SteNova and t11ner (steve) got me going again but partially suspected my alarm was the cause. Steve rigged up a bypass of a couple of relays in the car with a crocodile clip, and he suggested that even if I turn the engine off it may drain the battery, guess who didn't take the clip off, and guess what happened to my battery?
So, my alarm was going off last night, so I undid the croc clip but my battery is so low now until I get to charge it up I am worried the alarm may go off all night tonight. So I would like a description of how to disable the siren, I need to know where the siren is located, how to access it and which wires to remove please, I hope someone can help I did a search at 1.30am while my alarm was going off so couldn't find the details only references to low batteries etc. So, I need written instructions on how to disable the siren please, preferrably with pics ta. :) |

looking at the wiring diagrams now, and there is an inertia switch on KG & KE, there are mentions of it on the forum but no pics!
paul can you tell us what colour the 2 wires we fed power to were? Attachment 123327 |
Hmm well I can show you the pic we took, then I will pop outside and see if I can tell more clearly or is the pic enough?

Anyone help with the disabling the siren in the meantime?

need to know what was bypassed
just took this pic of mine, the relay has numbers on Attachment 123326 |
1 white/green - fuse 46
2 black - ground 3 yellow/black - injectors 4 empty 5 black/yellow - fuel pump input, fuse 2 (will red/black on models with inertia switch) 6 blue/orange - fuse 21 (ecu fuse?) 7 yellow/green - fuel pump output 8 green/yellow - ecu fuel pump control ground switching |
It looks like 5 and 8 from your list, not totally positive but I think so.
|
looking at the pic again zoomed it's 3 & 7 both on the same side gap of 1 between them and a gap at the front
|
need a test light or meter on number 5
|
didn't Steve test those on his meter?
|
yeh but we didn't know what each one did
|
right, ignition on there should be 2 clicks from the relay (really close together turn the key slowly) pump should prime, then a click as it stops, turn the ignition off and there should be another click
p.s. anyone got a pic of the location of the inertia switch? |
I can't believe you didn't take the wire off! :banghead:
Pins 3 and 7 would make sense as we had no output to the injectors even after I hotwired the pump and looking at your wiring diagram, inertia switch would be a good cause for this. Steve H |
I know :banghead: sorry Steve :(
OK so where am I now, would I be wise to get the alarm replaced and would this result in the car working normally once again, would replacing the alarm fix the problem? I need to be back on the road asap! THanks for any help |
If the wiring diagram is accurate for your car, I'm going with intertia switch as most likely for now, might be faulty or might just have tripped at a very odd time :thinker:. You need to confirm if there is power to pin 5 with the ignition on and where the intertia switch is located. It could be that the alarm cuts this feed as well but lets check it's actually missing and look at the bits that we are pretty sure run through it first. |
I don't know what the inertia switch does, but given its name and the fact I was doing a lot of sideways action on Saturday could this be related? Furthermore if it is the inertia switch can it just be reset and if so how? Finally, does the above tests prove that the fault is the alarm and should I therefore replace the alarm ... oh my god I hate electrickery on cars, I don't have a clue :(
|
the inertia switch is somewhere above the bonnet release catch, i would take a pic but i don't have one on my jdm :banghead:
|
Wish I could help!
Any porgress? Is it possible to disconnect the power to it and let its internal battery run flat? Can your wizard autoelectrician help? |
Does the car run?
|
It will run if I charge the battery and clip the croc clip on that you see in the pic above to bypass the relay's ...
|
The inertia switch (if fitted) will have a button on top which you simply press to reset if it has been triggered but if it is faulty this won't help so if it doesn't start after pressing the button it's best to disconnect it and bridge the two wires together.
If this doesn't work or if there isn't an inertia switch then you still need to check for power at pin 5 with the ignition on and immob disarmed. |
if the inertia switch had tripped surely the car would have stopped running on the track or did it not too clear if you were running when fault happened.
may be it did and the link installed flattened the battery coulld be just a recharge and a reset of the inertia switch that is needed. |
just been and looked on mine for the inertia switch and as steve say's it looks like it is just above the bonnet release abit to the left and just above the footwell plastic trim it as a rubber top to it and is right beside the fuse box.

Thanks for your help steve and bob I will have a look tomorrow afternoon in the daylight, can anyone recommend a good trickle charger from hellfrauds (I needed one anyway this just gives me a good reason to buy one) cheers.
And bob the car was running fine on track, I pulled off at 5.30 turned off the engine had a drink, got in the car ready to go home and it wouldn't start. |
trickle you want a ctek
http://www.motoraid.eu/shop/images/Ctek_XS_3600.jpg get it jump started and to the meet tomorrow night  |
Ste, baz and I had a look today and managed to find the inertia switch, we pressed it and it seemed to click. I have his trickle charger giving my battery some life at the minute, so I am hopeful that this was the problem, it would make sense that the inertia switch might kick in given the sideways action my car was getting that day?
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...1bd993846f.png The switch is circled and an absolute bitch to find. |
It would be nice if it was that simple!
|
ring honda and get a quote for resetting it
|
OK its fixed and had nothing to do with the inertia switch, so yes Mikey if only things were that simple, just my simple mind :)
Anyway, it turns out its the alarm, the fuel cut-off part of the alarm, my mate simply hard-wired (bypassed) this part of the system and it now works properly once again, so all being well I shall be back out and about and at the tunnel meet tomorrow night too :) Thanks for your help everyone and particularly the two Ste's for getting me going etc very much appreciated. |
 you can inspect my cyclo work ;)
Still got the other pads etc in the boot? Hopefully see you tomorrow  |
Look forward to it, I will shove the stuff in my boot tomorrow.
