How does supercharging the S2K increase top speed
Quick question discussed with soulcrew earlier, according to TTS spec sheet for the
Supecharger top speed is increased to 170mph please can somebody explain how it does this?

mine was 148-150 and if remembering correctly was basically revved out with no supercharger, so cant see where extra 20mph would come from
on a private road of course

A top speed of 168mph is theoretically possible with the existing Honda final drive crown and pinion gears, I understand.
The supplied F20C engine has 237bhp and the car gets to a top speed of 150mph. Some of us have never tried to see if that is true. Certainly not on the M45 on the way to the inaugural meeting of the PCG ten years ago
Increasing the power of the engine by say 80-100bhp, for example by adding a supercharger, means you can get as close as dammit to the theoretical top speed (of 168mph) which rounds-up to your 170mph.
Many people don't want to drive at illegal speeds however. So it is not uncommon to reduce the final drive ratio to get better acceleration through the gears at the expense of ultimate top speed.
Others will be able to elaborate

I am also curious as to supercharged performance, I see that Richard was saying 4.9 sec 0 to 60 for a stage 3 rotrex. For me top end is almost immaterial as there are so few places to exploit that - it's acceleration and cornering that excite (G-Force) rather than out and out speed.
What the supercharger does give the S2000 is more flexibility (torque), I find I drive in a higher gear much more but the fun is still there downshifting to keep in the 5 to 9000 rpm range. Was out with the roof down today and made a couple of fast A-road overtakes where the S/C really makes a difference - love the car.
Agree with Arsie - would go for the lower gearing and enjoy the acceleration!

Yes, Zz. Once you have enough added power you can push a bigger gear (to use a cycling analogy) to a higher top speed. If you want to. Personally, I went the other way.
As CB says, the S with a supercharger is the same only more so - thrash the gear box, rev into VTEC land: overtakes are quicker and surer. The supercharger magnifies the car's characteristics but doesn't turn it into a torque monster, you still have to work at it, that's the beauty of the modification
