First of all he should not have come out all threating he should maybe come round and said his piece that way you could have responded properly and probably solved it between each other their and then.
The other thing to do would be pop down your local DIY shop get some ear defenders for a few pounds and give them to him and say deal with it.

Does anyone else find the phrase "rice pipe" f'ing hilarious?

Yes, sounds like somthing you would use on a Thai prostitute.

Or a part of said lady's anatomy.
Rice Pipe (from the Urban Dictionary)!

A tail pipe commonly put on rice racers to make a slow car seem faster by making it sound loud,an excessively large exhaust on a car, causing it to have a "farty" sound. rice Pipes are most commonly found on cheap, front-wheel drive imports (see honda civic or mitsubishi eclipse) that 16 year old kids who watch The "fast and furious" series like its some kind of religion. The rice pipe can be identified by one of many tests. 1) If the cross section of the muffler or muffler tip is GREATER than the contact patch on the car's tires, the exhaust is a rice pipe. 2)If the muffler is larger than the displacement of the motor, it is a rice pipe. 3) if the ricer takes off in his riced out car and the exhaust is louder than his stereo, it is declared a rice pipe. 4) and last but not least, if any piece of the exhaust system was purchased at Pep Boys, Autozone, or any other ricer oriented store, it is most likely a rice pipe.

"Look at that rice pipe, that probably cost more than the car is worth."

It looks like the thing they got the space shuttle (or saturn 5) to the launch pad on. Or a scale model of it, in which case the man is tiny.

Our neighbours are like that too, always asking whether I'm looking forward to spring so I can get 'the sports car' out!

Neighbor to the right very sound and nice, Neighbor to the left not so sound nor nice.

The one to the right, I do my best to be compliant and a good neighbor, park facing the exit of the driveway to make a quick getaway.

The one to the left.... Do not have time, nor the patience to worry for what that cnut has put me and my family through for the past 14 years.
