Default Import diagnostic chip

I have just visited my local dealer to ask about servicing of my S2K import, he said no problem as long as your car has a uk diagnostic chip, otherwise all of the info would be in Japanese and they don't have any Japanese speaking mechanics.
OK said I, If I haven't got the UK chip, how much would It cost for me to convert ?

Sounds strange. It's not the car's ECU that handles the display of information, but the PC you've hooked up to it. Hookup a OBD-II cable, and all the car is sending is binary numbers. It's the software that determines the display...

It's possible that the ECU has a security chip that contains the region the car was made for, and the dealer software is set to ignore cars from other regions. (Very like how interegion software, or DVD coding works.).

I'd suggest contacting a dealer who has dealt with imports to check. Try Brindley Honda in Cannock (01543 506999), ask for Martin (service manager) and ask him if they can service your import.
