How do you know if a S2000 is imported from Europe?

Do they have a different ID number?

Also - are there any problems with importing?

An easy test is to performance test it, they are usually slower.

JHMAP1 130YT000431 and hopefully someone with an import (Jason?) will put theirs up, I don't know if you will be able to tell, but Honda UK will know, some small differences can be purchased (lock nuts etc) and some early euro cars didn't have Air con, standard on UK cars from the start.

If you specify "full UK Spec" when placing your order, there is absolutely no difference whatsoever.

If the car is not registered then bingo!

If the car is registered then they will let U know where the car came from!

My VIN starts JHMAP11301T and then a 6 digit number like yours. I thing the 1 in place oof your Y is a year indicator i.e. 2001.

The Euro Imported cars are mechanically Identifcal but (in Belgium) the locking wheel nuts and Alarm are optional extras, A/C is standard but I believe in Germany A/C is an option. The warranty is also valid but is 3 year 60K rather than 3 year 90K and you dont get AA cover (sorry that should read Honda Assistance ). Also in my experience insurance companies don't treat an EU import any different from a UK car.

My EU import is registered with Honda UK and hence I will be notified of any recalls that affect the car.

If your thinking of buying a car new then I would recommend importing, its easy and cheap. If your buying 2nd hand then look out for the above and negotiate on the price a little if these optional extras have not been added.

Beware of grey imports (from japan), whole different ball game with these cars i.e. insurance nightmares, mechanical and bodywork differences and no warranty. On the plus side the greys are more powerful and may come with extra toys i.e. VGS, Sat/Nav, Cruise

I think you should have an SVA certificate with a grey.

EU imports come (importantly) with an EU certificate of conformity when new. This certifies the car meets all EU regulations for which the car was homologated. From this, you can spot the local market variations.

So far, we have imported a Civic VTi and the S2K from Belgium. Haven't noticed any problems as a result.

It adds to the adventure of getting a new car.

Regarding chassis numbers, presumably then, Y is Y2K and 1 is
2001.

Mine ends 2007?? I think. If anyone can work out whether that's a lot of S2K's or refers to the market, we would all like to know!

Paul, it's true one must bear in mind currency movements in all of this. Can go up as well as down...etc. (In Wim Duisenberg's dreams!!!)

So far, both cars worked out cheaper than anticipated due to currency depreciation!
