Imported S2000
#21
Not sure about new cars, but i bought a second hand one that was bought new in Cyprus by a British Soldier stationed out there, they could buy them much cheaper than in the UK, and get the MOD to ship them over here, Which he did when his tour finished.
Any other EU imports would surely be left hand drive ?

Not necessarily. Around 2000-2004, it was easy to get hold of an RHD car from a European dealer at a good discount on the UK dealer prices. I bought my CTR from a dealer in Holland.
Quite a lot of S2000s entered the UK this way.

Under European law you can buy a 'UK' spec car from any dealer in Europe. I know that in 2001 there were dealers in Europe selling new cars for £3-4k less than UK dealers. I know of a few, including my own, that were purchased from European dealers.

Mine was bought in Brussels from a Belgique Honda dealer. Full UK spec and bought there because the buyer was working for the EU parliament and therefore got it tax free as well as discounted from the UK price. As mentioned above, lots of UK service personnel used to be allowed to buy a car tax free in th country they were based (Germany, Cyprus). My old man bought one each time he was in Germany. Everyone buys them just before coming home as you used to have to hold onto it for 3 years before selling (or pay the taxes). Think that rule was dropped later and I know many ignored it as well (some squaddies got busted for effectively running an import business).
Hoping yours wasn't actually driven in Cyprus- I've been there and driven on the roads!

How strange in this thread folk say that's too expensive, in another thread folk are saying that car is too cheap, at the end of the day a car is worth what someone is willing to pay to some that may be too much others may pay more so you price it up and it will find it's own level and if someone is willing to cough up then it's all good

So managed to get a price reduction and the cost of the refurbishment of the alloys. Its interesting If not slightly worrying to see the responses regards price. However it does seem to be a supply and demand thing with low milage late cars.
Most annoying is the dealers response when talking about the impact of it being an import on potential resale value. " just don't tell them sir, you only have to tell them if they ask.. by law" .
It seems to support the old stereotype of a second hand car dealer doesn't it..... and this is from a large dealership group. Buyer beware!
Any way looking forward to getting in a VTEC again, just got to clear some space in the garage

£16,400 () seems fair enough to me providing the car is in really good condition
If the VIN number starts 'JHMAP1...' then there is no difference in format to a UK car
If it starts 'AP1-XXX...' then it's the same as a JDM car
Chris.
