Default Insurance for buying an S2000

Hi everyone.

At the risk of being branded with the "yoof" stereotype; I'm 22 years old, and after just under 5 years of driving and 2 years of saving, I am finally looking to buy a second car, which I've had my heart set on for a long time, the S2000.

Throughout the saving period, I've been conducting research on the construction of the car, and things to look out for whilst test driving.

My question is, how do people go about securing insurance for a test drive on a private sale? I've requested quotes from a number of temporary insurance services, only to have it revoked based on my age (under 25).

Does anybody know of any other options which I may have?

Thanks,
Karl.

Thanks for the help

As you said, it varies so vastly.
Unfortunately I still can't get a quote with the link you provided.

Have you done a generic quote to see how much it will cost you? Could be worth lining up the insurance and then calling the provider and asking for a day rate?

Do you have any friends of family who could drive it using trade insurance? Alternativly take a parent or someone over the age of 25 who can test drive it with you as a passenger? I know this isn't ideal but it looks like you are running out of options.

If you can't get temporary cover for a test drive, you are unlikely to get an annual policy....

That could be worth a shot. Thanks!

Getting an annual policy isn't an issue at all, just the temporary cover.

I can only assume it's to prevent opportunists under the age of 25 borrowing a car which they don't have the ability or respect to drive.

I used https://www.insure4aday.co.uk/ when I bought my old Evo and most recently my S2000.

I'm a bit older a 32 now, but I believe they'll insure you if you're over 21.

If selling privately (and currently I am) I wouldn't be too keen on letting my car go out on a test drive without me!
You may have to go to a dealer and take one or two out for drives to get a feel for them.
Then the one you have your eye on for sale privately - ask the owner to show you exactly what you want shown eg Vtec / progress up and down gears without effort etc
