Default Insurance companies to use

Hi, I'm possibly swapping my S2000 ED100 with someone this weekend with a chap who has an E46 M3. However he has been REALLY struggling to get insurance for a decent price. He's been getting quotes of about £2500!! His M3 costs him £800 to insure. It only costs me £360 to insure the S2000, I know I may be older than him and different post code etc. but that price is ridiculous considering the car he is currently insured with.

Can anyone offer any advice on what he should do, or who he could go with?

I've already suggested he is a named driver on another (older - parent?) persons policy, lowers his annual mileage, joins the owners club.....any advice???

Make sure you inspect the m3 for the dreaded rear subframe mounting point cracks before you do the deal.

Might not be the best idea, insurance fraud / fronting is taken very seriously these days and there are third party systems many companies use to track this type of activity. (at least if you're going to do it then maybe not best to advertise the fact on a public forum.)

Yes I will as much as I can, unfortunately unless it's on a ramp or half the rear end is already removed you can't see much.

On a separate note, I wasn't advising fraud. Merely suggesting ways I knew of many years ago to help. I don't even know if that still works? I'm an old git these days and don't have to worry about how to get my insurance.

He's found a company now anyway, so we shall see tomorrow how it all pans out.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

Insurance companies know it's more likely for someone to have an accident in a "different" car so they pump up the premiums when you change your car.
After the 1st 18 months the cost "should" come down.

I'm not sure that's true Steve. There is certainly no rating in our companies algorithms to account for anyone driving a 'different' car. If course I can't speak for other insurers.
