Wink It's dark, cold, a bit sleety..

I got into my car to drive the 1.5 miles to the other side of Hertford.

There were spots appearing on my windscreen and yet I felt compelled to drop the roof...well, stay above 20mph and it'll be fine, right?

It was with sincerity, albeit through the mask of an insurpressable grin, that 40 minutes and about 30 miles later that I apologised for being late. Car ticking away obediently, and I'm pretty sure it was grinning just the same.

Cold air being sucked relentlessly past the carbon heatshield, the darkness making every bark of the new exhaust seemingly resonate off every twig and branch...I can live with the day to day thundery drone of the H&S if that is the level of aural pleasure it can deliver on those occasions when the roads are clear and the corners flowing.

I still have the 'look back' feeling for this car and tonight pretty much confirmed it as the most enjoyable thing I've ever owned. I don't care that it's on a v-plate, I don't care that it has some scuffing on the drivers seat, or that it has some rattles. I didn't notice any of those things under the cover of the tree lined back roads, or when I went round the roundabout under the A10 3 times just because it meant I got to go under the pair of 4-lane wide bridges 3 times. I've only had one other car (from 15) that has come close to the level of involvement and enjoyment...it was a stripped out honda, with a vtec engine.

If you've fallen out of love..and I've read t a couple of times recently...make some silly excuse to the mrs, let her watch spookserloo road or whatever, and as the clock hits ten, grab the keys, drop the roof, and drive. Play the left right game...take sat nav purely to get out and guide you home..I've a feeling it'll be around when you decide you need more fuel.

I've been castigated for being 'poetic' in the past.

I get you.

Ahh make me pine for the days when I worked in the sticks and drove home late at nights with empty roads. Wish I could do that now with this car.

Others won't get it - but keep it up.

Great write-up. After selling the Elise in May I was having a few doubts about the Honda, and posted my feelings on Pistonheads.
I've since opened my eyes a bit, and now I'm learning to really appreciate and love the S. It REALLY IS a fantastic car.

Great write up

Every now and again when the I need to forget some things I do just as you did. Its amazing how in just a few miles on an empty road that this crazy little car can change everything .

I recently had a 60 mile top down drive at 2 degrees and it was unreal. I think it will be along time before the "look Back" feeling fades away and if it does I have some nice roads mapped out to bring it back

Haha, I *did* consider putting something about it being a b*tch, and using a dab of oppo, but I just couldn't.

I don't often gush, but I've had a funny couple of weeks with work etc and it provided a cracking bit of escapism that the 320d just couldn't ever manage!
