JDM Gearbox Bell Housing Damage ?

With my big power build coming close to completion I made a spontaneous buy and picked up a cheap spare JDM gearbox which has allegedly done only 37K..

Take a look at the bottom side of the bell housing... Is it me or is it missing a big chunk of the bell housing wall!?!? Or is it a JDM thing

Only paid £200 for it but this wasn't mentioned. What could of caused such damage?? Would you advise to still use it if I weld over a blanking plate?.

We will see if they respond to my eBay messages..! If it's anyone on here, please get in touch.

:eek3:

I can tell you when my original JDM gearbox was removed, it didn't have any huge holes in the side.

Dropped it maybe?

I was throwing it around to vent out my anger for Frankie pouncing on my bonnet :tipwink: That looks similar to the polo gti gearboxes when they used to blow up due to crap rivets. Well they were made out of chocolate..

Damaged, there is normally a small hole there to help you separate the box and engine but someone has used some force.....probably left a bolt in and didn't realise.

Used some force?! understatement that

Don't think there would be any negative impact on using it? blank it up if needs be.

Thanks guys, yep Seller confirmed that the garage that removed it used a crow bar before removing the clutch fork!!! FAIL Those kind of stories scare me!

I'm not against repairing it, could probably weld something over the gap pretty easily. Main concern now after having a good look around it is that it won't go in to reverse!

Dumb question time!!!

Now I know I haven't used a S2K gearbox for some months but I've either forgotten what I'm doing or it's not selecting reverse!!

The shifter won't push down for me to select reverse next to 6th.. Is there any reason why it wouldn't go into reverse when out of the car? Does the clutch have to be engaged to get reverse? Hence me not getting it?

If I can get all gears then I'll keep it and repair, if not it's going back!

Anyone fancy answering my dumb question before I respond to this eBay seller??

Should I be able to select reverse on a box out of the car? I don't see why not., and therefore it must be kaput! :(

WinFreak 03-02-2014 05:17 AM

Isn't reverse straight cut so might be harder to select without the insides moving like it would when it's under the car?
