Default JDM Insurance recommendations.

looking at s2ks and a number of JDM's keep popping up - and I'm attracted to them mainly because they tend to be the unusual colours (yellow/orange).

Does anyone one have any recommendations for JDM insurance?

Ive quoted for two identical cars recently one is the wheeler dealers orange s2k which is a UKDM.

And recently an Orange JDM has popped up on eBay.

Ukdm for me is £560
JDM for me is £720.

Every other detail is the same. Mileage - spec - value.

Are JDMs more inclined to self terminate?

SS.

No its just a "rule" from an old era when the motoring industry wanted you to buy local and not import JDM models so they wouldn't service them, get/stock parts, increased insurance, etc. The only difference is that it might not have an alarm and when run on 100 octane petrol it will have 10bhp more although that's unlikely given the engine is probably over a decade old.

Just had a decent quote from Adrian Flux. Narrowed the gap to £100 between UKDM and JDM.

Its nuts but I guess I'll have to live with it.

Isn't the JDM thing linked to the fact that the security requirements on those vehicles were less than the UK? Things like Thatcham alarms etc, were less of an issue in Japan? As a result, importing a car may mean it wouldn't necessarily met UK minimum security specifications and therefore be a greater risk to insurers (as it could stolen more easily)?
