Default JDM Sat Nav, what's the deal?

I've done all relevant searches but the threads seem to just fizzle out without a conclusion as to whether the JDM Sat Nav can be made to work over here.
So does anyone know what the story is??
Can you just change the Sat Nav unit or is it built into the screen or what??
It is a factory fitted Sat Nav from honda by the way.
Thanks for any help.

Sorry I can't help you but I'd be interested in some advice on this as well.

When I asked Honda about it they advised me it would have to be a full replacement kit which would cost

Surely it's just a screen and as such anything should be able to be connected up to it?

I reckon the US forums have probably covered it.

It looks like a standard double din recess so why not bin it and fit an aftermarket system with TV tuner and DVD player, you could it up by fitting a PS2 while you are on

The electronics only work on jap radio frequencies, the interface is written in japanese and the maps are japanese.

A complete waste of time in the UK unless you fit a new aftermarket UK system and reuse the dash bezel.
Though IIRC the screen size is odd.

We've had this discussion in person a few weeks ago I believe.

Haven't investigated it any further though.

Doubtful

This thread has spurred me on though. I'm gonna ring round a few places and see what I can find out...

As I understand it, the protocol codes are all different, so it'd be almost impossible to get it to work.

If it IS merely a double-DIN with a funny faceplate then that's your answer.

I understand that some NSX owners have done exactly that. But the sat-nav goes in a top bezel, rather than having to change to entire fascia.
