The K&N FIPK ABSOLUTELY makes power, but not down low, the power is up top. I did a pull with my buddy, both cars stock, with the exception of my car with the intake. We were neck and neck right up until we hit vtec, then I started to pull on him.

I would pair the intake with an AUT style cooling plate, with the stock air deflector removed.

I concur that it does sound similar to the stock airbox with the lid removed but I experienced major heatsoak using this method. If the FIPK is installed correctly, it will heat soak but it should be minimal (I never really felt it myself). I datalogged the intake against the stock intake as well, and in my test, it did cool the air faster than a stock airbox.

AFE Takeda with a dry filter would be my choice if I were to change.
Aem V2 looks to have good gains also, but a lot of faffing to fit.

I'm convinced after a robust test such as that.

It was lucky that both your cars had identical engine wear, mileage, power distribution, tyre fiction, etc...

Basically, a CAI makes sod all power increase because the stock intake is very well designed because they had to in order to squeeze 240bhp from 2.0L!

Buy a CAI for the noise and improvement in heat soak in traffic and I found a slight throttle response improvement with the FIKP too. Don't expect anything else.

Alternatively, do what I did:

Buy a K&N filter similar size to the one used on the AEM V2.
Buy metal pipework with similar dimensions / bends as the AEM V2.
Mount it in the same place as the AEM V2.
heat wrap/lag the pipe work.
Cost: 1/2 the cost of the AEM V2.

Oh and the side by side comparison test made me laugh.. Such scientific. Much factual. Wow.
