K&N FIPK query

I ordered a K&N FIPK 2nd hand on eBay (I also got the K&N filter cleaning kit), it has arrived today but I have a query about it.

I was expecting it to arrive with the hole for the air sensor predrilled - as it has been fitted to someones S2000. But, upon opening the box, it does not have a drilled hole, and it has a unit screwed to the side of it, with a plug socket and tubes for, what looks like vacuum tubes on it.

Can anyone tell me what this is? As it doesn't seem to be in any of the instruction videos I've seen or the official K&N FIPK fitting instructions as seen https://www.knfilters.com/instructions/57-3514_inst.pdf

Big thanks in advance!

/Edit I've just seen you have a prefacelift in your sig

The solenoid it's picture 11 in the instructions you link to and you won't need to drill a hole unless you have Drive by Wire as the temp sensor is in a different place.

Whoever sold it is going to miss that vacuum solenoid ;) I'm guessing you have a Drive by Wire - you'll need to drill the hole for the air temp sensor as this was fitted to a pre-drive by wire and the temp sensor is on the intake manifold. I'm pretty sure you'll be missing the tophat grommet to hold the temp sensor secure.

As for the vacuum solenoid - I'm guessing the DBW doesn't have those so you don't need to worry about it.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Was kinda hoping the drilling was already done, being second hand. Oh well, no getting out of that.

So I can remove that solenoid and start looking for a tophat grommet - dont suppose you know what size it is i need?

Ah thanks! Yeah I have a pre-facelift, should probably update my signature so its a bit clearer!

So no drilling required and no grommet in that case.

It'll make sense when you remove your stock airbox.

My FIPK came pre-fitted and I've removed my SAI Pump so never had to use the instructions, but I'm sure there was an error in the instructions mentioned in some threads - they have the vacuum solenoid valve round the wrong way or something, worth having a search for any truth in this.

I hope so haha

The kit for deleting the air pump arrived today as well - so should make fitting even easier... maybe.

Well the air pump delete kit arrived today as well. So will probably ignore the vacuum lines altogether and make the FIPK install easier. The vacuum pipe was disconnected when I got the car, with no CEL, so I'm guessing the PO just put the resistor in there without getting rid of the pump etc

Makes it a lot easier with the Air Pump delete as you have no pipes to worry about, even the vacuum reservoir can go, solenoid needs to stay connected to the wiring though ( I tucked mine behind the coolant tank) - here's a useful set of pics I prepared before my pump delete in case I cocked something up

Thanks for that!! Very helpful.

I got the old airbox out last night, hopefully finish the install tonight.

Where abouts on the south coast are you?
