Knock Knock Knock
Evening all.
After a bit of advice really.
After 109.7k miles the old F20C has had enough and spun a rod bearing by the sounds of things! god awful sound, and you think it'll never happen to you! But there we are! poo happens...
Anyway, to cut long story short, in need of an engine ( this is not a wanted thread by the way mods!!!!!! ) And as it goes, a member on here has come up top trumps
Problem is the engine is out of an 05 car, mine is an 01...
What are the differences and what problems am I likely to encounter?
-I know the cam cover varies slightly, so I'll swap that.
-Throttle body is different so I'll swap that
-Clutch kit will be replaced as the engines out, rude not to!
-Knock sensor, top quality sensor that shatters when you breath on it.
-Can you remove the engine with gearbox in situ?
Honda's are foreign to me, but engine removal isn't just want to know EVERY bit of info I can.
Regards
Tom

Throttle body shouldn't be different on an 05, only different when if went DBW on the 06.
Yes, you can remove the engine with box in situ but this makes things difficult unless going from bottom
Are you doing it on your drive?

Well in me garage mate, decent size, I don't mind removing the box just wondered if it were possible but not to difficult as I tend to get naggy over one stubborn bolt not coming out

Aaah mate gutted! And you'd spent ages getting it looking the way it did!
Any idea what caused it to let go?
At least with an 05 engine you'll get the best of the AP1 with the best of the AP2.

The front subframe is held on with 6 bolts. apart from earth leads and the steering rack and of corse the lower wishbones.
But it all comes of fairly easily if fact the most awkward bit i found was getting the universal joint to separate on the steering colum.
It just bolt on, no adjustment other than the clearance around the bolts which you can get collars for if you so desire

Thanks for the informative posts all
Andy, gutting isn't it! ah well it was going to happen eventually although I have no idea why it went. Plenty of oil and coolant! No warning lights on the dash at all nor any fault codes! Very odd one.
Thanks chippo much appreciated!
Ray. It's either gunna be this weekend or the weekend after, after work this week, going to start slowly removing ancillaries and take me time. So every bit of info on here helps a great deal, I've got a copy of the workshop manual too.
