Doh, bad news! At least now you can start afresh.

Recommend a thorough check/replacement of gaskets, pulley bearings and misc items on the new engine for peace of mind before you fit it.

The sealing/rotating parts on even the youngest engine will be 10 years old now.

There was a ready-to-go short block for sale recently, might still be available in “For Sale”. Delta Lima I think was the seller.

Might be worth considering if your top end is still good?

If you haven't damaged the bores then a good standard S/H crank and rod for the offending item as it will be trash then a refresh kit i.e new bearings rings and gaskets plus chain, check the oil pump and you should see a rebuild between 2 and 4k depending on how much work you do yourself

^^^ is highly recommended to do the work. Congleton way I believe so a bit of a hike from 'the south'. Delta Lima is 50km NNE of Amsterdam.

Let us know how you get on could happen to any of us I guess letting the oil go is to be avoided ... see my avatar

If this were me I would be planning some time off the road/under the beast
