Hi. Picking up on this thread ... I'm trying to do the same, replace OEM Rears with Koni Orange. (Fronts done OK)
I can get the perch off relatively easily, but that doesn't fit the Koni (8050 1118) without the ring also, or something at least.
Am I supposed to buy something else, or cut the ring from the OEM damper?

Should be a new ring in box?

No. Opened the second box to check ...
Now I think about it, I'm sure there was with the fronts.

Thanks, but it's not the stock perch that's the issue - I've removed them OK, rather I now believe the part identified below is missing.
Online msg sent to Koni UK (RFT Group).

I have Konis fitted and my boxes contained just the shocks with what looks like a circlip on the body, it took a while with the old shock in a vice with a mallet in hand until I hit it in the right place for the appropriate part to slide off, once I got one off the second was much easier.
The part arrowed in your picture was re used from the old shocker.
Only thing I wonder was there were two slots for the circlip and I thought of moving it to the lower position to see what would happen, didn’t bother in the end, didn’t want the hassle of putting it back if it didn’t suit.

@martin j really appreciate the reassurance to hit the ring on the OEM shock a bit more - I have successfully removed what I felt sure was welded in place.
It does fit over the Koni, and I know the spring seat will fit to it of course, but its ID is slightly larger than the Koni body so it doesn't sit on the circlip at all and it 'rocks' a few mm.
That means all the load will be on the top plate - much as it will have been on the OEM shock, and the position of the circlip is irrelevant.
Does that all sound right?

Evening, been out to look at mine and try a picture but that’ll need daylight and maybe the wheel off to get a good picture. From what I see the collar has a recess for the circlip as I can’t see that it seems to be just inside the collar, I think once assembled the string tension hold all secure without any movement, any tighter and it would/may seize on. It doesn’t look like I have the long tube above the collar but it may have changed in spec over the years, mine is an 09. HTH.
